Ross Simonini is an artist, writer, musician and documentarian.

His first novel The Book of Formation will be published by Melville House and Penguin on November 14, 2017.

He has exhibited work at the Sharjah Biennial 13, Jack Hanley Gallery, Martos Gallery, Andrew Edlin Gallery, Fredericks and Freiser, Vacancy, Human Resources, and Shoot the Lobster in the Luxembourg. Full list here.

Simonini has served as the interviews editor at The Believer magazine for over a decade, where his dialogues appear monthly. He is a founder and producer of The Organist, an experimental podcast by KCRW and McSweeneys.

He contributes writings on art to frieze, The New York Times, Salon, Bookforum, Interview, McSweeneys and Art in America, where he is a columnist. He has written for artist monographs by Matthew Barney, Sterling Ruby, Eddie Martinez, and Devendra Banhart.

He is one half of the band, NewVillager and has performed with various musical projects at the Brooklyn museum, the Andy Warhol Museum, MOCA, Performa, and Queens museum. Listen.

In late 2016, he served as the host and audio-artist-in-residence for the award-winning first season of SFMOMA's Raw Material podcast Listen.

He is an adjunct professor at Columbia University, where he has developed seminars on spoken literature and writing process.

He holds degrees in music, physics, and writing, from the University of California and Bennington College.

He currently lives in Northern California and New York City.
